Fibre Arts Competition
Do you love to spend your days creating beautiful fibre arts pieces?
Why not take part in the Fibre Arts Competition this year? Your piece will be showcased and viewed by hundreds of fibre enthusiasts and members of the public.
The competition takes place on Saturday, April 26th, 2020 and the winner of each category will be announced at 4pm on Saturday at the West Niagara Agriculture Centre. Categories include: weaving, spinning, crochet, knitting, felting and novelty.
Each entry is $10. Ribbons are awarded to 3rd prize and prize money will be given for all first place winners.
We are very excited to have Ute Zell from Freelton Fibre Mill judging the competition this year.

Send in your best 3 to be judged by our expert judge – First 45 entries accepted so don’t delay!
Register Here – before sending in fibre – $30 per entry
- All Spin off Entries must include:
- 25g of prime blanket fleece (skirted but not washed), weigh carefully
- Copy of alpacas CLAA certificate
- Colour photo of alpaca (4X6)
- Spin off entry tag (AO website)
- Place in a Ziploc bag
Your fibre will be scored on:
- Fineness & handling
- Uniformity of micron & length
- Brightness
- Absence of guard hair
- V-Cleanliness & Absence of second cuts
- Lock structure
- Staple length
- Soundness & tip damage
- Matting & cotting
Guidelines:
- Staple length must be at least 3” long and no longer than 6.5”
- Don’t card, comb or change the structure of the staples
- Be sure to remove all vegetative matter and other debris
Results will be announced at the Alpaca Ontario Show. Entries can be picked up at WNAC on Sunday, April 26th at 2pm. Good luck!

Photo Contest
Our annual photo contest is a PEOPLE’S CHOICE contest. Anyone can enter their photos in the contest. The photos are on display all weekend in the Livestock Building, and the public can vote for their favourite photos. The winner is announced on Sunday.
Anyone can enter and there is no entry fee. Simply email up to 5 of your best photos that show Canadian farmlife with alpacas to info@alpacaontario.ca. Make sure to include your name and phone number!
