2009 Juried Fibre Arts & Yarn Competition and People’s Choice Competition

The Alpaca Ontario Fibre Promotion Committee would like to thank all participants in the 2nd Annual 2009 Juried Fibre Art & Yarn Competition. Two accomplished fibre art experts – Hazel Alexander and Harriet Boon evaluated 36 entries in 4 different sections.

Hazel and Harriet praised the excellent and diverse array of alpaca pieces and congratulated all entrants. They offered constructive comments including that Alpaca is a luxury fibre that is shown to its best advantage in a fine yarn. The natural warmth of alpaca does not necessitate a heavy yarn/garment. The fibre is non-elastic and thus designs which create pattern support and avoid stretch or sag as garments age.
For 2009 the Juried Fibre Arts & Yarn Competition was organized into four sections – Hand Spinning, Hand Weaving, Hand Knitting/Crocheting, Felting with a number of classes in each section. Ribbons were awarded in each section for Champion, Reserve Champion, 1st, 2nd and 3rd. To receive a Champion or Reserve Champion ribbon, the winning entry would have to have placed 1st and 2nd in that section.
A Supreme Champion ribbon and monetary prize was awarded to the item receiving the highest score and a Most Successful Exhibitor ribbon was awarded to the person who had the most entries with the highest score.
